GP Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APP)
Here in Braids Medical Practice we now have a permanent GP Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APP), Louise Cockburn, who is in the Practice each week on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
GP Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APP) are highly experienced physiotherapists who have skills to assess, diagnose and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions e.g. joint, muscle or bone pain.
You can book directly with the GP APP without the need to see a GP first.
A GP APP can:
- Assess, diagnose and give first line advice on managing your MSK problem.
- Refer on for further physiotherapy rehabilitation.
- Order investigations such as x-ray.
- Make referrals to secondary care services using the same pathways as GPs e.g. orthopaedics.
- Provide a fit note as part of treatment.
- Some APPs may also offer corticosteroid injections or independently prescribe medications as part of treatment.
