The Braids Medical Practice

INFECTION CONTROL and PHYSICAL DISTANCING in GENERAL PRACTICE

Although restrictions in Scotland have now eased the Scottish Government requires General Practice and other healthcare settings to have different infection control and physical distancing guidance to other places such as hospitality and shops.

This is to help reduce the risk to practice staff and to people attending the practice who may be at greater risk if they catch Covid 19.

The following rules therefore still apply in General Practice:

  • wearing of face coverings by patients (unless you are exempt)
  • physical distancing of 1 metres in our waiting room
  • contact the practice by telephone in the first instance where possible
  • wearing of PPE by staff
  • screening of all patients for Covid 19 symptoms

Please support your practice team by complying with this guidance.

Community COVID testing. Stop the spread of COVID-19 in Edinburgh

Infection rates are high across Edinburgh and people are being encouraged to get tested, even if they’ve been vaccinated. Almost 1 in 3 people are infected with Covid-19 but have no symptoms and are spreading the infection without being aware.

Anyone with no COVID-19 symptoms can go along for a test at various drop in sites in Edinburgh. Information about where these are can be found here. If you can’t get to any of these sites, you can order free rapid lateral flow test kits online or by phoning the National Testing Centre on 119

IMPORTANT

HOW OUR SERVICES ARE BEING CURRENTLY PROVIDED

PLEASE TELEPHONE US FOR ALL ENQUIRIES

The practice is here to provide you with care and support but due to the continued situation with the coronavirus the way we are providing our services remains different to in the past.  This is for your safety and the safety of all our patients and staff.

We are still required to take precautions therefore most GP appointments are still by telephone that can be booked on the day. If you require to be seen face-to- face the GP  will make arrangements for this.

You will  be offered a telephone appointment for either morning or afternoon and the GP will call you back. Please make sure you have your telephone to hand as the GP may not be able to call you back if you miss the call.

We now also offer advance booking phone appointments up to six weeks ahead, therefore if your problem is not urgent we would be grateful if you could book ahead with your usual GP.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) appointments are now mostly in the practice, although some telephone appointments are still available for the ANP.

Apointments for our Practice Nurse and bloods with our phlebotomist can now be booked as normal.

To reduce the risk of infection, when requesting prescriptions you must do so online and provide us with the name of your usual pharmacy so that we can send your request directly to your chemist. We will only accept telephone requests from our elderly and housebound patients.

You should not come down to the practice to collect your  prescriptions.
