The Braids Medical Practice

Coronavirus and flu winter vaccines

If you are eligible for a flu and coronavirus vaccine you will receive a letter with the time and date of your winter vaccine appointment. Please wait to be contacted.  All people aged 65 or over should have now received a scheduled appointment for coronavirus and flu vaccinations. If you have not yet received this, you can book an appointment online.

Lothian are now in the process of contacting those At Risk aged 5-64, and an appointment should arrive no later than 17 October.

If you're aged 50 to 64 with no additional risk factors, please wait to be contacted about your winter vaccination appointment.

Once you receive your invite, if your appointment does not suit you or you wish to opt out, you can do this online here  or by calling the National Vaccination Helpline on 0800 030 8013.

Vaccinations will not be done in the practice, there will be various vaccination clinics across Lothian and you should contact the National Vaccination Helpline on 0800 030 8013 for any enquiries about the flu or coronavirus vaccinations.

You can find out if you're eligible for flu and coronavirus vaccines this winter here.  If you are not eligible for a free flu vaccine then you may be able to get vaccinated for a small fee at your local pharmacy.

The latest information about Winter Vaccinations can be found here at  NHS Inform and NHS Lothian also has local information here.

The practice is here to provide you with care and support and although COVID restrictions are no longer in place, we continue to take precautions  for your safety and the safety of all our patients and staff. The way we are providing our services therefore remains different to in the past.

Where possible please continue to contact the practice by telephone in the first instance  and wear a face covering when attending the practice.

Please do not attend the practice if you have coronavirus.

Please support our practice team by complying with this guidance. We are doing our best to continue to provide your care in the safest way possible.

How our service are currently being provided

Appointments with the Doctor can either be arranged in the practice or over the telephone as appropriate.  A trained member of our team will ask a few questions about the problem you are calling about so that they can make the most appropriate provision for you. GP appointments can either be booked on the day or in advance up to six weeks ahead, therefore if your problem is not urgent we would be grateful if you could book ahead with your usual GP.  More information about arranging a consultation with the GP can be found here

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) appointments are now mostly in the practice, although some telephone appointments are still available for the ANP and appointments for our Practice Nurse and bloods with our phlebotomist can be booked as normal.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS

Stay at home and avoid contact with other people if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection such as coronavirus and you:
  • have a high temperature or
  • do not feel well enough to go to work or carry out normal activities
Do this until you no longer have a high temperature (if you had one) or until you feel better.

Information about your symptoms, self-care and what to do if your condition worsens can be found on the NHS Inform online coronavirus guide.

You should call the Practice on 0131 445 5999 if:
  • your symptoms worsen
  • you're concerned about your symptoms
  • you have symptoms that you can no longer manage at home
  • you're worried about your child, especially if they're under 2 years
Useful information and advice can be found on our COVID - 19 page

To make sure everyone can access the care they need quickly and safely it is important you choose the 'Right Care in the Right Place'.  You may not always need an appointment with the GP as there are many other ways to get the care and advice you require.

At NHSinform.scot you can get accurate and reliable information to help you make informed decisions about your health needs. This includes:

  • How to help yourself to manage common symptoms such as fever, earache, and vomiting.
  • Information and guidance on home treatments and over-the-counter remedies.
  • Symptom checkers to let you know where to go if you need further medical care

Your community pharmacist should be your first stop for minor illness and common clinical conditions, such as sore throats, earache and cold sores, along with common clinical conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTI's). The NHS Pharmacy First Scotland is an NHS service provided by your local community pharmacist who, like GPs, can provide certain medicines and products on the NHS.

Your dentist can help with pain and problems in your mouth while the optometrist should be your first point of contact for any eye problems.

If you have a cut, minor burn, sprain or suspected broken bone or fracture you should contact the minor injuries unit on 111

Guidance finding the Right Care in the Right Place can be found here and Scotland' s Service Directory provides details of many health and wellbeing services throughout Scotland, including dentists, opticians and support groups.

When we are closed information about how you can get medical advice and care can be found here
